LafargeHolcim Tanzania Mbeya cement factory

LafargeHolcim Tanzania is a subsidiary of the global LafargeHolcim Group. We have been supplying Tanzania and neighbouring countries with our world-class Tembo brand cement and other building materials and solutions for over 30 years. Our head office and fully-integrated plant are located in the Mbeya region in Southwest Tanzania.

The current majority stake in the company is held by the LafargeHolcim Group, with 65% ownership. The Tanzanian government owns 20% and the National Social Security Fund holds the remaining 15% shares in the company.

The history of LafargeHolcim Tanzania

In 2001, Lafarge purchased Pan African Cement Ltd and became the new major shareholder. In 2015, Lafarge and Holcim merged to form a new cement company in Tanzania. This company, LafargeHolcim, invested 45 million Swiss Francs (~104 billion TZS) in various expansion projects and upgrades.

The kiln was upgraded, state-of-the-art technology was installed in the plant control room, the electrical systems were upgraded, a new vertical cement mill (the first of its kind in Tanzania) was constructed and a new cement packing machine was installed.
