Building Materials Centre paving the future of Tanzania

The future holds many challenges for Tanzanians, especially in the infrastructure sector. Luckily, LafargeHolcim Tanzania understands these challenges and can help Tanzanians prepare to overcome them. We offer training programmes and free knowledge-sharing sessions at our Building Materials Centre in Dar es Salaam.

LafargeHolcim Tanzania shares the interests and concerns of the communities around us. We actively engage with locals to prepare them to meet these challenges and share value with them. Contractors, architects, engineers, developers, investors and students can attend the training programmes and advanced building dialogues at the Building Materials Centre.

The challenges we expect to face in the future are diverse. We help to prepare locals to tackle issues of energy efficiency, environmental certification, best construction techniques and balancing the cost versus quality of a project. By sharing knowledge and allowing experienced speakers to give an insight into their jobs, Tanzanians can face the future head-on.

These training programmes and educational sessions will advance the Tanzanian construction sector. They also raise awareness of the high-quality local building materials on offer, such as Tembo cement products. The future of any country lies largely in the infrastructure sector. Solid infrastructure and preparedness will ensure that the country continues to develop properly. This can be achieved through a skilled workforce that is able to build better cities in the future.

Building Materials Centre to prepare students for future changes

Building Materials Centre to prepare students for future changes

The world is changing rapidly. Africa and Tanzania are experiencing rapid urbanisation which is placing additional pressure on strategic resources, such as water, energy and raw materials. This is a busy time for contractors and building materials suppliers that work to meet the demands of society by upgrading and building new facilities.

As urban centres grow and spread out, the need for more water supplies, electricity, sewage treatment centres and housing increases. It is opening up new job opportunities and LafargeHolcim Tanzania aims to train local citizens to become employable assets in the construction industry.

We recruit, train, develop and retain the best local talent at our Building materials Centre in Dar es Salaam. This allows Tanzania to face the challenges and embrace the opportunities that the future of urbanisation brings. Rapid change requires rapid solutions and LafargeHolcim Tanzania is working to solve this.

We prepare eager postgraduates, engineers, contractors and stakeholders in the building sector for the future while delivering value to our customers and society at large. The Building Materials Centre gives Tanzanians the opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills about construction. We host knowledge-sharing sessions where experts share valuable insights into their industry and careers.

LafargeHolcim Tanzania has also paid two visits to two local universities this year – Ardhi University and the University of Dar es Salaam, alongside a guest expert who shares their experiences with the students. A range of topics are discussed during these university visits and the team educates the students about the range of Tembo cement products available. This prepares students for the industry and for the future of construction.

Building Materials Centre: Vision in building materials

Vision in building materials

Building materials are an integral part of the architecture and structure of a project. The end result of a construction project is directly influenced by the materials used. High-quality products and building materials will ensure a durable and well-finished structure is completed.

LafargeHolcim Tanzania runs a training centre, known as the Building Materials Centre. The facility understands the value of these materials and aims to raise awareness of the importance of these materials through its training courses. The Building Materials Centre also teaches attendees about LafargeHolcim products and the various uses for Tembo cement.

Cement creates a strong binder when mixed with water. This binder can be mixed with sand a crushed stone to form concrete or mortar. Cement is one of the most common building materials as it forms the basis for binding bricks and creating strong foundations for buildings.

Factors to consider when choosing building materials

When looking at various brands of building materials for a construction project, make sure that the supplier has a good reputation and it trustworthy. LafargeHolcim Tanzania stands behind the quality of its Tembo cement and can ensure the fast and safe delivery of construction materials to construction sites.

Here are some other factors to consider when choosing building materials:

  • Durability – The product should be strong and last for many years
  • Environmental impact – The supplier should be considerate of the environment
  • Aesthetics – The finished product should look like a quality structure
  • Maintenance – The material shouldn’t require excessive maintenance
  • Performance and workability – The material should be easy to work with
  • Stability and strength – The product should be strong and stable
  • Installation – The product should be quick and easy to install

These factors are important to engineers and contractors as they impact the time it takes to complete a project. Meeting deadlines is important to keep construction costs down – delays in a project always mean more money is spent.

It is important for contractors, engineers and masons to know about their building materials. LafargeHolcim Tanzania develops sustainability in the construction industry by providing quality cement and construction materials. These materials are strong and safe to use on all construction projects.
